Full Body CT Scan Price in Delhi — What the Scan Covers, What It Actually Costs
At Orbit Imaging & Pathlab, we run NABL, NABH, and QCI accredited CT scanning at six branches across Delhi. We use 128-slice CT scanners, and every report goes through our MD radiologists — not technologists, not automated software alone. This blog gives you the honest picture of what a full body CT scan costs in Delhi, what drives the price difference between centres, and what you should insist on before you book anywhere.
What a Full Body CT Scan Actually Covers
The term “full body CT scan” gets used loosely. When a patient walks in asking for one, what they usually mean — and what most Delhi diagnostic centres actually offer — is a combined scan of the head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis. Some packages extend this to include the neck, spine, or extremities. Others focus purely on two or three body regions.
Here is what a standard full body CT scan covers at Orbit Imaging:
| Body Region | What We Image | Common Reasons Doctors Order It |
| Head / Brain | Brain tissue, skull, sinuses, orbits | Headaches, stroke workup, trauma, tumour screening |
| Neck | Lymph nodes, thyroid, carotid vessels, soft tissue | Neck mass, dysphagia, lymphoma staging |
| Chest / Thorax | Lungs, heart, aorta, ribs, mediastinum | Lung nodule, HRCT for ILD, cardiac screening, trauma |
| Abdomen | Liver, kidneys, pancreas, spleen, bowel, adrenals | Abdominal pain, liver mass, kidney stone workup |
| Pelvis | Bladder, prostate/uterus, rectum, iliac vessels | Pelvic pain, staging, urological evaluation |
| Spine (if included) | Cervical, dorsal, lumbar vertebrae, discs | Back pain, disc herniation, trauma |
Not every full body CT scan package includes all of these regions. At Orbit Imaging, we always confirm with the patient — and, where possible, with the referring physician — exactly which regions the scan should cover. A scan ordered for “whole abdomen” is not the same as a scan covering head, chest, and abdomen. Clarify this before you pay.
Full Body CT Scan Price in Delhi — A Realistic Breakdown
Prices vary significantly across Delhi depending on the centre, the scanner technology, whether contrast dye is used, and whether the scan includes one body region or five. Here is what the Delhi market actually looks like in 2025–26:
Note: These are Delhi market ranges based on 2025–26 rates at accredited diagnostic centres. Individual centre pricing varies. Call Orbit Imaging at +91 92892 89216 for current rates at your nearest branch.
Why does one centre charge different and another charge different for what sounds like the same scan?
This is the most important question patients ask — and most diagnostic centres do not answer it directly. Here are the real reasons:
1. The CT scanner — 16-slice vs 64-slice vs 128-slice
A 16-slice CT scanner completes a scan faster than older machines, but a 128-slice scanner produces significantly higher-resolution images with finer detail — particularly for small lesions, vascular structures, and coronary artery imaging. The difference is clinically meaningful. At Orbit Imaging, we operate 128-slice multi-detector CT scanners across our Delhi branches. This is why we do not compete at the lowest price point — our scanner quality does not allow it, and we would not want it to.
2. Contrast dye — when it is needed and what it adds
Contrast-enhanced CT (CECT) uses an iodinated dye injected intravenously before or during the scan. The dye highlights blood vessels, distinguishes between benign and malignant lesions, and makes organ abnormalities significantly more visible. Not every scan requires contrast — your doctor will specify. At Orbit Imaging, we check your kidney function (creatinine) before injecting contrast to ensure it is safe. This step is non-negotiable. Some lower-cost centres skip this check. They should not.
3. NABL and NABH accreditation
Accreditation costs money — in equipment, processes, training, and regular external audits. Centres without accreditation can charge less because they carry fewer quality obligations. Orbit Imaging holds NABL, NABH, and QCI accreditations at all branches. This means every scan follows a certified protocol, every report meets a clinical quality standard, and every patient is protected if something goes wrong. When you see a price that looks too good to be true from a non-accredited centre, something in the quality chain is usually missing.
4. Who reads your scan
At Orbit Imaging, every CT report is interpreted by an MD-qualified radiologist with post-graduate training. We use a double-reading protocol — two independent radiologist reads before the report is signed off. Many budget centres use technologists or outsourced readings with minimal oversight. A missed lesion on a cheaper scan does not save money. It costs lives and it costs money in follow-up.
5. Hospital vs independent diagnostic centre
Private hospitals in Delhi typically charge 30–60% more for CT scanning than independent accredited centres. The scan is performed on the same or similar equipment, read by a radiologist of similar qualification — but you pay for the hospital overhead, the brand, and the corporate margin. At Orbit Imaging, you get the same diagnostic quality at independent-centre pricing.
When Do You Actually Need a Full Body CT Scan?
This question matters because not everyone who searches for a full body CT scan price actually needs a full body CT scan. A doctor recommends a full body CT for specific clinical reasons. Walk-in, self-requested whole-body screening CTs carry radiation exposure without a clear diagnosis target — they can produce incidental findings that trigger anxiety, more tests, and more radiation.
Valid clinical reasons your doctor may order a full body CT:
- Trauma — major accidents where internal injury across multiple body regions is suspected
- Cancer staging — to determine whether a known cancer has spread to the chest, abdomen, or pelvis
- Cancer restaging — after treatment, to assess response and check for recurrence
- Unknown primary tumour — when a secondary tumour is found but the origin is unclear
- Fever of unknown origin (PUO) — when standard investigations have not identified the source
- Pre-surgical assessment — before complex surgery where full anatomical mapping is needed
- Lymphoma or haematological malignancy workup — to identify and map all affected nodes
- Vascular disease surveillance — aortic aneurysm monitoring, peripheral arterial disease
How to Prepare for a Full Body CT Scan at Orbit Imaging
Preparation depends on whether your scan uses contrast dye. Here is what applies in both cases:
For all full body CT scans
- Remove all metal objects before you arrive — jewellery, piercings, belts, glasses, dentures. Metal causes artefact on images and degrades the scan quality.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing. You may be asked to change into a gown.
- Bring your doctor’s prescription and any relevant previous scan reports or blood test results.
- Inform us if you are pregnant or breastfeeding — CT scanning during pregnancy requires special consideration.
- Tell us about any known allergies, particularly to iodine or contrast dye.
If your scan uses contrast dye (CECT)
- Fast for 4–6 hours before the scan. Plain water is allowed and encouraged.
- Bring a recent creatinine / kidney function test (KFT) report — we check this before injecting contrast to ensure your kidneys can clear the dye safely.
- If you are diabetic and taking Metformin, inform us when booking. You may need to hold Metformin for 48 hours before and after a contrast scan.
- Stay well-hydrated on the day of your scan. After the scan, drink plenty of water to help flush the contrast dye from your system.
The scan itself takes 10 to 30 minutes depending on how many body regions we cover. With contrast, you arrive 15–20 minutes earlier for IV line placement and pre-scan checks. You can return to normal activities immediately after the scan.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a full body CT scan cost in Delhi at Orbit Imaging?
Our full body CT scan prices depend on which body regions your doctor has prescribed and whether the scan requires contrast dye. A combined chest, abdomen, and pelvis CT without contrast. With contrast, pricing starts higher. Call us at +91 92892 89216 for the exact price for your specific prescription — we do not charge more at the desk than we quote on the phone.
Do I need a doctor’s prescription for a full body CT scan at Orbit Imaging?
Yes. CT scanning uses ionising radiation, and clinical guidelines require a valid prescription from a qualified physician to justify the radiation exposure. We do not perform CT scans without a prescription. If your doctor has verbally recommended a scan but has not yet issued a written prescription, ask them to do so before booking.
Is a full body CT scan safe? How much radiation does it involve?
A full body CT scan (chest, abdomen, and pelvis) involves radiation exposure of approximately 10–20 mSv, which is roughly equivalent to three to five years of natural background radiation. This is clinically acceptable when the scan has a clear medical indication. At Orbit Imaging, we use dose-optimised scanning protocols on our 128-slice machines to minimise exposure while maintaining image quality. We do not recommend full body CT scans for healthy, asymptomatic individuals without a specific clinical reason — discuss screening options with your doctor instead.
How long does a full body CT scan take at Orbit Imaging?
The actual scanning time for a full body CT (head to pelvis) is usually 15 to 25 minutes on our 128-slice machines. If your scan includes contrast dye, add 20 minutes for IV line placement, a short wait after injection, and the post-scan monitoring period. Most patients are in and out of our centre within 45 minutes to an hour.
When do I get my CT scan report from Orbit Imaging?
Reports are ready within 24 hours. We send them digitally to your WhatsApp and email — you do not need to travel back to the branch to collect a physical copy. If your treating doctor needs an urgent report, call us at the time of booking and we will prioritise.
What is the difference between a plain CT and a CECT (contrast CT)?
A plain CT (non-contrast CT or NCCT) uses only X-rays to image the body. A CECT (contrast-enhanced CT) adds an iodinated dye injected intravenously before or during the scan. The contrast dye highlights blood vessels, helps distinguish benign from malignant lesions, and makes vascular and soft tissue abnormalities significantly more visible. Whether you need contrast is determined by your doctor based on your clinical situation. We never administer contrast without first checking your kidney function.
Can I eat before a full body CT scan at Orbit Imaging?
If your scan does not use contrast, you can eat normally. If your scan uses contrast dye, fast for 4–6 hours before your appointment. Plain water is always allowed. For abdomen and pelvis CT scans — with or without contrast — you may also be asked to drink oral contrast before the scan. We give you full preparation instructions when you book.
